Seeking another person or several people who like to take short road trips for interesting, sometimes offbeat destinations such as UFO conventions, ghost-hunting (at Civil War battlefields, haunted hotels, etc), classic car shows, drive-in theaters. Also interested in simple beach trips, trips to nearby cities to see bands, etc. I don't mind going to these things alone, but am finding that hotel and gas costs really limit my trips. I could go to twice as many places if there were another person along to split the cost. Surely there are other people out there in the same boat!

I'm male, middle-aged, own classic cars, like a range of music from classic soul/R&B, jazz, pop, bluegrass, classic country, rock, and currently see approximately 50-100 live bands per year. Very interested in history, animals, paranormal, flea markets, junk shops, thrift stores, diners. Am not a super-hardcore camping pro, but do have a fair amount of camping gear, and am up for checking out campgrounds within a day's drive of central NC (Outer Banks NC?). For brief motels stays, I usually choose something on the cheap-but-not-filthy side. Of course, conventions are usually held in higher end/luxury hotels, so I'm used to both ends of the spectrum. Am Libertarian (and therefore probably not likely to get along with uber-Liberals, once they open their mouths about fiscal politics). I get along equally well with men and women, and don't have a preference there, as far as traveling. My friends range from 20s to 60s (but are either married and only travel with family, too broke to travel, or don't share my interests or hobbies). Am Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender-friendly. NOT looking for sex/any sort of "hook-up", just saying that sexual orientation/gender orientation isn't an issue. Very respectful of all boundaries, and am seeking strictly platonic traveling companions. Ideally looking for someone as laid-back as I am about traveling, someone who can go with the flow and blend in and get along anywhere. I might be at a motorcycle rally one weekend, a drag show the next weekend, and a bluegrass festival the following weekend. Very little shocks me, and I can chill, hang out, chat, and have fun almost anywhere. Non-smoker, am ok with 420 (though I don't smoke) & social drinking.
